you're my favorite.

everyone has favorites. food, music, color, anything.
and they're easy to pick.
there's just something about that something that really sticks with you.

favorites are things you can have or be around over and over and over again and never tire of them. like best friends.

my favorite color is purple. it just always has been. something about it makes me feel good.
i think it was in 8th grade that i changed my favorite color (to yellow maybe...?) because i thought it was cooler or something stupid like that. that phase only lasted a few months though and i went back to purple.

my favorite flowers are gerbera daisies. i can't look at one and not smile.

my favorite season is autumn. like in the first days of school when it's just cool enough to wear a swearter but not cold enough to wear a coat.

my favorite food is home-made-mom-coooked german food. my favorite cookie is chocolate chip. my favorite sweatshirt i got in 10th grade. my favorite classes in school were always history type classes. my favorite artist is jack vettriano.

but music. that's the hardest one to pick.
music moves you. literally and metaphorically.
and when you like such a wide range of audible greatness, how do you pick a favorite?

i guess you go back to what you never tire of. music that could be on repeat for the rest of your life. or maybe something slightly less dramatic than that.
maybe as simple as the fact that it moves you.

i've always had the boring and predictable "i don't know...i like lots of things..." answer.
but thinking about it. and thinking hard. i think i've figured it out.
not to say that it won't change. favorites have every right to change every once in a while.

but the music and the lyrics and the voice that moves me the most, has stayed pretty constant since the first time i heard her in 9th grade.
nichole nordeman. she's incredible.

so i did it. i picked my favorite music. and it was hard to do.
maybe because when you say something's your favorite, you almost make a commitment to it.
you wipe out all the other everythings in that category and put that one at the top.
which is hard to do with music because there are sooo many incredible artists.

ok. done with that. happy monday.
